Welcome to College!

Welcome to college, the center of education. College has been the place that your parents have constantly talked to you about, ever since you were able to comprehend that 1 plus 1 equals 2. Now, it is the place that is standing between you and your career.

For some of you, college is a dream, signifying freedom or an escape from your parents. For others, college may be your worst nightmare, representing pressure on your future. Whether college is a dream or your worst nightmare, it is vastly approaching, so, ready or not, here comes college!

College can represent the best four years of your life or the worst four years of your life. It is up to you to make that decision. To have a successful college experience, you will need to do the following three things:
  • Maintain a good work ethic.
  • Be involved on campus.
  • Learn.

Maintain a good work ethic.

At the end of the day, your GPA is the most important aspect of your college career. To maintain a good GPA, take the time to complete homework and study the course material. If you ever have difficulty understanding the material, do not be afraid to ask your professors questions or receive tutoring immediately.

Be involved on campus.

Before you graduate, be sure to have fun and be involved on campus. Campus involvement can be a great opportunity for you to build life-long friendships and a stronger connection to your college. Campus involvement can also serve as a good break from the stress of academics, giving your mind time to recharge and prepare to learn more material.

Learn.

Don't forget to learn, while you are at college. Some students become so obsessed over their grades and forget to actually learn the material. If you take the time to absorb the information that you are learning, the information will stick with you, making it readily available for application in your future career.

If you take my advice and follow these three tips, you will be able to hit the ground running on your college journey! For those of you who viewed college as your worst nightmare, do not worry. Like Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez said, "you got this!"
