Chapter 6: Tips For Transitioning Into Remote Learning

As you all know, the world is currently undergoing a major health crisis. This pandemic is negatively affecting various aspects of society, including the supply chain, small businesses, and, more importantly, people. Our academic life as students has even been impacted by the dangers of this pandemic.

Due to this crisis, we as students have been ordered to engage in remote learning by completing our academic work at home via online services. Transitioning to remote learning can be a stressful and overwhelming task. If you're like me, you may prefer a face-to-face class environment and need some time to adapt to this new class structure.

Amidst this negativity, we need to spread positivity now more than ever. My way of spreading positivity is helping you all have a successful transition into remote learning with the following tips:
  1. Continue to Follow Your Class Schedule.
  2. Dress Up.
  3. Have Communication with Professors.
  4. Avoid Distractions.
  5. Remain Active.

Continue to Follow Your Class Schedule

Remote learning can make it more difficult for you to maintain the same structure as your face-to-face classes. To maintain structure, I recommend continuing to follow your class schedule at home. Completing assignments during your allocated class time will help you achieve structure and avoid losing track of time.

Dress Up

Wearing pajamas all day in the comfort of your home is tempting, but it can negatively affect your mentality. Wearing pajamas may make you feel lazy and unmotivated to achieve your academic goals. Dressing up for the school day will restore your focus on academics, filling you with a sense of purpose and motivation to do your coursework.

Have Communication with Professors

Communicating with your professors is vital to having success in remote learning, since you can no longer have face-to-face interaction with them. If necessary, communicate with your professors on a weekly basis to ensure that you are staying on track with your academic requirements for the course. If you have a question or feel any sense of uncertainty, be sure to immediately email or call your professor.

Avoid Distractions

It is inevitable for distractions to arise when you are completing your coursework from home. Having the sounds of pots and pans, ringing phones, screaming kids, or loud music in your ear will prevent you from accomplishing any assignments. So, I suggest finding a quiet space for you to complete your assignments at home.

Remain Active

Remember, even though you are stuck inside your home, you can still be active. Allocate time to do a workout or simply walk around the house. Being active is a fun way to relieve stress and improve your brain activity.
